This autumn GSA are thrilled to be presenting the Premiere of the first UK performances of Neil LaBute's ANTIGONE, freely adapted from Jean Anouilh. Directed by Erica Gould, the production will be performed by final year students, with a text that is evolving through the rehearsal process, in a dynamic collaboration among students, director, and playwright.
A compelling re-examination of an ancient story of morality, politics, and violence; reconfigured for our time.
LaBute's muscular, funny, and psychologically complex adaptation Jean Anouilh’s masterpiece is directed by Erica Gould with a visceral theatricality, exploring contemporary issues of governance, politics, media, and personal responsibility.
ANTIGONE will run for four performances at the PATS Studio Theatre 18th, 23rd, 27th, 30th November.
Neil LaBute, Erica Gould, and the cast will also take part in a Q and A after the performance on the 30th November, and LaBute will lead a workshop with the GSA students on the 1st December.
Sean McNamara, Head of GSA, confirms “GSA is both honoured and excited to be presenting the premiere of the first UK performances of Neil LaBute's adaptation of Jean Anouilh's Antigone."
