Can you explain your current role within the theatre industry – Acting/Musical Theatre/Dance/Production Technology/Teaching/Other?
Director of Musical Theatre
Had you always wanted to pursue this career? How did your interest begin?
I always had a love of theatre and, after performing in a number of West End shows as an actor, I made the move into directing.
In your opinion, what are the most important skills to have in your chosen genre?
People skills, creativity, patience, the ability to work under pressure, artistic vision.
What do you consider to be the most exciting part of your work?
Creating a cast and then starting with a blank canvas and developing ideas before seeing the finished article.
What attracted you to choose the GSA?
It had a very good reputation and I was interested in a degree course.
What is your strongest or happiest memory of your time at GSA?
The camaraderie, making good friends and the 3rd year productions, particularly Kiss of the Spiderwoman.
What were the best things about your training?
Being stretched, tested, challenged and pushed to the limit to become the best you could be.
How did you change as a person during your time as GSA student?
I certainly grew in confidence and I became aware of my strengths and limitations.
What one piece of advice would you give to people considering GSA?
Be prepared to work hard in all disciplines, particularly those you are weaker in.
