Guildford School of Acting (GSA) is pleased to present a relaxed performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time this autumn, offering an inclusive experience for audiences who may benefit from a more flexible theatre setting.
The production, adapted by Simon Stephens, based on Mark Haddon’s award-winning novel, follows Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old with unique perspectives on the world, as he embarks on a mystery-solving journey. Known for its dynamic storytelling and sensory-rich stage effects, the play has gained acclaim for its portrayal of neurodiversity, making it particularly resonant for autistic audiences and persons with other sensory sensitivities.
In keeping with this theme, GSA’s relaxed performance will feature modifications designed to reduce the sensory intensity of the experience, while keeping the overall content of the show. Adjustments to sound levels, lighting, and the overall environment will be made, creating a more comfortable space for those who may feel overwhelmed in traditional theatre settings. Audience members are also free to come and go as needed, and there will be a quiet space available for anyone who may need a break.
